Jaipur: Seven people lost their lives on Tuesday after a massive explosion and fire tore through an alleged illegal firecracker godown in Jaipur's Talai colony. The fire spread with frightening speed after the initial explosion. Workers inside had no time to react. Some managed to crawl out. Others collapsed right outside the building trying to escape the flames. Locals who were nearby rushed in to help pull out trapped workers before fire tenders even reached the spot. But for seven of them, help came too late.

What police had said?

Assistant Commissioner of Police Vinod Sharma confirmed all seven deaths. Five of them died during treatment at SMS Hospital. One was brought dead to the hospital. The seventh died at a private hospital. The deceased have been identified as Sameer, Aabid, Nasir, Abdul Wahid and Bilal. Two victims are yet to be identified.

What triggered the blast?

Preliminary findings point to highly inflammable material stored inside the premises. Investigators believe that material set off the explosion. The exact cause is still under investigation. Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal said the house was being used as a storage facility for firecrackers. A nearby manufacturing unit is also under scrutiny and being examined by authorities.

Multiple fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Police teams and ambulances also reached quickly. Additional District Magistrate Yugantar Sharma said the response was immediate after the incident was reported. Locals had already begun pulling out victims before official help arrived.

Ownership under scanner?

Jaipur Collector Sandesh Nayak said the ownership and operational details of the facility are being verified. How a firecracker storage unit was running inside a residential colony without detection is the key question investigators are now trying to answer.

What are the political reactions?

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also offered his condolences. Kishanpole MLA Amin Kagzi was more pointed. He questioned how such a dangerous operation was allowed to run in the middle of a residential area. He alleged administrative negligence and demanded accountability.
